“Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”: read Jn 18;

The Lord Jesus voluntarily surrendered Himself to the mobs that came out to arrest Himself though He had the power to destroy them. He saw the upcoming death as the cup that God the Father gave Himself for the saving mission He had from God!

• What could we observe the way the Lord Jesus didn’t use His power against those who were after Himself? Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ: read Jn 17;

The Lord Jesus has the authority to give eternal life to those whom God has given to Himself. The eternal life is the ongoing life-long experience of God the Father and His Son the Lord Jesus. Do we have authority given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ? It sure has been given to us to serve people that they might experience eternal life as well;

Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory: read Jn 17;

The Lord Jesus desires that His followers might be with Him where He is and see The glory that God the Father granted Himself. Then, they will turn around to show His glory in the world around them. But it is inevitable that they see His glory first before they turn around to the world around them;

For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified: read Jn 17;

As the Lord Jesus prays for His followers that God may sanctify them by the truth, the Lord mentions that He has been sanctifying Himself that they too might be truly sanctified in Himself. Are we also sanctifying/setting ourselves apart for the sake of our spiritual & physical children around us?

• What could we observe the way the Lord Jesus sanctified/set Himself apart Himself See also Heb 5:7-8 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. The Lord Jesus is reviewing His relationship with His followers for the past three years. He gave them the word of God, and they accepted them, and the word convinced them that the Lord Jesus has come from the Father. How are we giving our the word of the Lord to the people around that they may also believe;

I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do: read Jn 17

The Lord Jesus is confessing that He has completed the work God has given Himself. He has dwelt among the common people who walked in darkness and shown the glory of the Father by living the truth among them until He died in His time as His work from God completed;
