The Lord wants parents among the believers to learn to take care of their children, so they grow in the Lord. Similarly, the Lord commands children and grandchildren to care for their aging parents to repay their debt of love.
What could we observe the heart of the Lord Jesus from the way he became obedient to His earthly parent? See also Lk 2:50-51 But they did not understand what he was saying to them. Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
What could we observe the way parents need to invest their lives in their children? See also 2 Cor 12:14-15 Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. So I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well. If I love you more, will you love me less?
What could we learn from the Lord Jesus’ example to entrust His mother to John- a disciple of Him? See also Jn 19:26-27 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
What is the Lord Jesus saying to you about your relationship with the families around?
How would you like to practice your faith in your relationships with the relatives around you?
Paul is laying two golden rules for the Christian community’s relationships toward people of different age groups. Treat them as if they were your family members and to maintain absolute purity in relationships;
What could we observe as the foundation of the relational pattern among Christians? See also Rom 15:7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
What could we observe the way we might practice such relational patterns in life? See also Col 3:12-13 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
What could we observe the importance of absolute purity in church relationships? See also 2 Tim 2:20-21 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
What is the Lord Jesus saying to you about your effort to maintain absolute purity in your relationships?
What do you want to do in response to His voice that you might see your community enjoy His blessing?
The Lord Jesus demonstrated a life that matched His teaching/doctrine, and he commanded us to do the same. The teaching that is not supported by the practice in life can’t go far in its impact.
What could we observe the way the Lord Jesus ministered among the people? See also Mk 7:37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
What could we observe the impact of the Pharisees who taught without pacesetting through their example in life? See also Mt 23:3 So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
What must have caused the message of the gospel so powerful during the early church? See also 1 Thess 1:5-6 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
What is the Lord Jesus saying to you about how you imitate the Lord that people around you might follow your example?
What do you want to do in response to His voice that your message might penetrate your world with power?
The followers of the Lord need to enjoy an authority to impact the world around them. For, our Lord Jesus has the all authority in heaven in heaven and on earth and is with us that we might live out powerful life as His ambassadors;
What could we observe the intention the Lord Jesus called us with from He called the apostles? See also Mk 3:14-15 He appointed twelve–designating them apostles–that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
What could we observe the source of the power/authority one need to remember? See also Lk 6:18-19 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
What could happen to us as we walk with the Lord Jesus in our life? See also Act 4:13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
What is the Lord Jesus saying to you about efforts to get empowered by the Lord Jesus in life?
What do you want to do in response to His voice that you might get empowered by the Lord?
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows open toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to God. Dan 6:10
Daniel learned of the situation around him that would cause him serious threat to his security unless he stop worshipping/praying God. Was he willing to replace his godly pattern of life for the sake of safety? It was a temporary ceasing of the prayer for thirty days. Or was he willing to pray in silence that no one may notice (and accuse)? What he saw was not certainly positive at all!
No, that’s not what Daniel did. He acknowledged/worshipped God no matter what might the cost. Though he was aware of the threat to his life, he was also aware of the grace of God who would not put anyone who put his trust in Him to shame. He determined to walk and pray by faith no matter what it might bring him to face.
Are we facing similar uncertainty around us these days? Are we encouraged to consider the circumstances around us rather than the principle of godly life we have learned? Are we pressured by others of even by ourselves to temporarily compromise the priority we know important? Daniel chose to bet on almighty and unchanging God and risked his own security as he offer Thanksgiving three times a day.
Father in heaven, I need to get strengthened by your Spirit today that I might be strong enough to thank you and walk by faith in the presence of uncertainty around me. Thank you for the example of Daniel’s I could follow in these trying time. Amen.
